2013 Season Reflection

The amount of incredibly bizarre setbacks I have had to endure for the past year and a half had me salivating for this past triathlon season. I wanted more than anything to just race this season and that is exactly what I did. I was able to get in 4 races this year; Harriman Olympic, Rev3 Quassy Half, Vineman 70.3 and Toughman Half. Each race offered their own unique challenges and had their own personality. I could see myself doing these races again in the future however with so many races out there, next season I plan on challenging myself on completely different courses. Besides just signing up for races I had very specific goals ranging from the super short term (daily, weekly) to season long. There is no secret that my passion for triathlon lies at the 70.3 distance and my goal split times were geared toward this distance. One of the only ways that would allow me even deem this season a success was to reach my goal split times. I wanted to complete the swim in 35 minutes, compl...

I'm Hungry

I'm back and I'm HUNGRY! I have just completed a solid month of training and I'm feeling great.  It wasn't until the last week or so that I have developed a hunger and a focused purpose to my training.  The first few weeks were slightly frustrating coming to terms with how much fitness I had lost while dealing with babsiosis.  However this past week I have started to feel my fitness and endurance levels taking small steps forward.  I'm very eager to conquer another month of training and I anticipate large gains in my fitness and endurance.  It was truly awesome to observe the level of conditioning I reached working with Matt of Organic Endurance while unknowingly couping with babsiosis. I can't wait to witness the potential of my conditioning while healthy. I have pulled out of all my focal races this season, Vineman70.3 and Timberman 70.3, due to obvious reasons but there was no way I was going to let this season end without a race.  I worked with Matt...

Interview with Matt Wontz (part 2)

What was the biggest or most embarrassing noob mistake you have made? "What mistakes haven’t I made really? It wasn’t even a noob mistake, well I guess it was. I should have learned this along time ago. It happened to me at the Carl Hart Fall Duathlon, I was having a great race. I had a great first run, first onto the bike, I was coming off the bike in second with a very manageable gap to Brian Wolf, this guy is a fantastic cyclist, a complete monster. I figured if I could get off the bike within 45 seconds I could run him down on the last run.  So I came screaming in off the bike, it was kind of rainy that day, transition area is grass, I hope off my bike, and immediately hit the ground. The bike goes one way and I go the other. It was just a matter of not doing the basics; I didn’t slow down into transition.  I just thought I would save some time and come screaming into transition, hop off the bike and be gone. Slow and steady in that situation always wins the races. ...
